Pittsburgh Community Services Incorporated (PCSI), the Community Action Agency for Pittsburgh, is providing much-needed food relief to Northside families as grocery costs rise and availability becomes more unpredictable.
In late May, fifty families, all patients of the North Side Christian Health Center (NSCHC) received essential food items, including eggs, butter, milk, and chicken at a distribution at NSCHC’s East Ohio Street clinic. PCSI will continue these supplemental distributions at NSCHC’s Northview Heights clinic and at a senior housing complex in Perrysville in the coming weeks to support households living at or below 80% of the Area Median Income level.

PCSI also operates a daily walk-in food pantry at 249 North Craig Street in North Oakland, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Families must meet income requirements, provide proof of city residency, and present photo identification for all household members. Beyond food assistance, PCSI offers a range of on-site support services, including employment readiness and job training, parenting workshops, utility assistance, and one-on-one case management.
“Our goal is to support families not just with food but with the resources they need to achieve both short-term and long-term stability,” said Sarah Cook, PCSI’s Executive Director. “We remain committed to expanding these efforts as much as possible, and hope we’ll be able to bring our services into the community as more funding becomes available.”
